The Universal Banker performs both teller and FSR responsibilities by providing a variety of services involving receiving and paying out money, and maintaining accurate records of all transactions. Duties include:

  • Cashing checks within assigned limits
  • Accepting savings deposits and withdrawals, verifying signatures, posting interest and balances as required
  • Accepting loan, credit card, utility and other payments. Issuing money orders, cashiers' and travelers' checks, and issuing or redeeming savings bonds
  • Balancing currency, coin and checks in cash drawers at completion of shifts, and calculating daily transactions using computers, calculators or adding machines
  • Renewing or opening new accounts
  • Opening and processing new demand and time deposit accounts including passbook accounts, IRAs, certificates of deposit, and money market accounts
  • Cross-selling other bank services and refering customers to other departments as appropriate.
  • Performing other customer service, such as preparation of collection letters and deposits to appropriate accounts, exchange of negotiable items (e.g., cashiers' and travelers' checks, certificates of deposit, foreign currency, and savings bonds), and processing of transactions and verifications related to commercial loans
  • Researching and resolving problems and responding to customer inquiries on account status
  • Maintaining files

The Universal Banker is a multitasking artist who is skilled at organizing, prioritizing, and ultimately accomplishing a wide range of financial-related tasks for customers. One minute you are on the phone verifying the details for a loan closing. The next, you are helping a customer decide on a checking account. Your mission each day is service – helping customers that visit or call our financial centers get what they need. But it’s also sales – setting goals for yourself to build relationships and take advantage of opportunities to promote our products. Time management is essential, as is a passion for helping people. It is a fast-paced but satisfying day – one that’s filled with new faces to serve and different challenges to solve.


What experience is required?

Accurate typing, spelling, and grammar skills. Proficient with applicable computer software. Good written and oral communication skills. Good organizational and customer service skills. General banking/operations helpful. Two – four years of experience required (four – six years preferred).
